The group originally formed under the name ''Students for Creative Anachronism of Auraria Campus (SCA-AC)'', with a constitution recognized through the Office of Student Life at Metropolitan State College of Denver. The purpose of the group was to research and recreate aspects of the Middle Ages within the Auraria Campus community through events, demos, workshops, and combat practices.

By early 2006, the group began organizing regular activities and participating in the broader life of the Barony of Caerthe.
