Overview
The Corona Graminea of Unser Hafen (CCG) is a Barony-level Non-armigerous award in the Barony of Unser Hafen (part of the Kingdom of the Outlands). It is given for fighting service to the barony at War. No scroll is given for this award. Instead, a crown made of grasses is presented to the recipient.
This award was formally chartered on the 30th day of January, A.S. XXXXIV (2010), during the reign of Baron William and Baroness Rosalind of Unser Hafen. The charter was also signed by King Bela and Queen Anna of the Outlands. Marie de Blois served as White Stag Principal Herald at the time.
Despite the 2010 charter date, the award was created by Titus Claudius Severus and Hancarata Aethnen filia Cuneddae, second Baron and Baroness of Unser Hafen. It is modeled on an ancient Roman award of the same name:
"The Grass Crown (Latin: corona graminea) or Blockade Crown (corona obsidionalis) was the highest and rarest of all military decorations in the Roman Republic and early Roman Empire. It was presented only to a general, commander, or officer whose actions saved a legion or the entire army. One example of actions leading to awarding of a grass crown would be a general who broke the blockade around a beleaguered Roman army. The crown took the form of a chaplet made from plant materials taken from the battlefield, including grasses, flowers, and various cereals such as wheat; it was presented to the general by the army he had saved."
