Archer General
Summary
The Archer General is the kingdom archery officer responsible for safety, training, reporting, and communication. The position was originally known as the Captain General of Archers during the late principality and early kingdom years. In 1996, then-AG Peregrine renamed the role to Archer General, and local officers became known as Captains of Archers.
Until about 2000, the Archer General oversaw target archery, thrown weapons, and the archery portions of combat archery. Combat archery authorizations remained under the Earl Marshal, who often deferred archery matters to the AG. Over time, responsibilities became more clearly defined, and combat training returned fully to the marshallate.
From 2000 to 2025, the AG was responsible for target archery and thrown weapons. In 2018, then-AG Lyssa created the position of *Captain of Throwers* to support groups with little or no archery interest. This allowed them to build thrown weapons programs without training in archery skills. In 2025, thrown weapons became an independent community under the leadership of the new Thrown Weapons General. Today, groups may have both a Captain of Archers and/or a Captain of Throwers, depending on local interest and participation.
