Monkey of Caer Galen
Overview
The Order of the Monkey (DM) is a Barony-level non-armigerous award given for bringing joy and laughter to the Barony of Caer Galen.
The name of the award has a unique origin. In the pre-Barony days, the Shire group had a "Doge" who would run "Non-court Experiences" with the goal of making them fun and entertaining. The Doge, Massimiliano Pontieri dal Sasso, once called upon Keridwen Andersdottir to dance like a monkey to provide entertainment. During later discussions of the change from Shire to Barony, the King sarcastically admonished that "Order of the Monkey" better not be Massimiliano Pontieri dal Sasso and Yazida bint Zarif's first act as Baron and Baroness. It was, in fact, their sixth.
The Order was formally chartered on April 18, A.S. XLIX (2015) by King Hrothgar and Queen Ingridr of the Outlands, with the charter attested by Randal Carrick, White Stag Principal Herald. The premier recipient was Anna de Apperleye.
Purpose and Recognition
