Overview
The Augmentation of Arms is a rare and highly prestigious award bestowed by the Crown of the Outlands. It recognizes individuals or groups who have given long-standing and exemplary service to the kingdom and the Society. Unlike other honors, it does not grant arms but instead permits the recipient to add an augmentation (a special charge or design element) to their existing heraldic arms.
This honor predates the Outlands becoming a kingdom and has no formal charter. It is considered one of the most visible ways a sovereign may acknowledge a subject’s extraordinary and sustained contributions.
Purpose and Recognition
The Augmentation of Arms is given for sustained exemplary acts of service rendered faithfully to the kingdom and the Society. It is unique among honors in that it alters the recipient’s heraldic arms, symbolizing the bond between the Crown and the individual or group.
Recipients may be individuals or groups (such as colleges or companies). The augmentation itself is designed in consultation with the Crown and heralds, and must be approved by the College of Arms.
Precedence
This award is non-armigerous and does not convey precedence. It is, however, regarded as one of the highest personal distinctions a subject may receive.
Badge and Regalia
There is no fixed badge for the Augmentation of Arms, as each recipient’s augmentation is unique. The augmentation is permanently incorporated into the recipient’s heraldic arms as approved by the Crown and College of Arms.
