Cheuky (also spelled chewky, chewkie, chookie, or chooky) is the term used in the Kingdom of the Outlands within the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) to describe small trinkets used as tokens in games of chance.

Use in the Outlands

Cheuky serve as play pieces or symbolic stakes during gambling-style activities at events. Rather than wagering money, participants use cheuky as a fun and period-appropriate alternative. The tokens may be crafted from a wide variety of materials, including beads, buttons, small charms, or handmade items, and are often collected or traded for their decorative or sentimental value.

Cultural Role

Cheuky games are a popular element of medieval nights, revels, and informal gatherings, providing lighthearted entertainment without the risk of monetary loss. The playful and varied nature of cheuky reflects the Outlands tradition of incorporating creativity and craftsmanship into even the simplest forms of amusement.
