Introduction

Gilbertus de Messina, a.k.a Gilbert, is a player from Unser Hafen, he is a fighter, and herald who served as the Unser Hafen chatelaine. He is also a member of Bears Gate and spreads word of their shenanigans far and wide with his attitude and service. He is the squire and protege of Sir Alexander MacAndrew who is a knight and pelican of the society.

Gilbertus is a Norman from the city of Messina in the Kingdom of Sicily. He saw the first two kings of Sicily, Roger II and William I, and witnessed the growth of the kingdom's presence on the global stage. He was first bloodied during Roger's campaigns in North Africa, which resulted in the eventual conquest of Tunis and Tripoli. He also joined in raids against the Byzantine Empire during the 2nd Crusade.

When he returned he started a small sea trading outfit in Palermo and he sails the routes from Sicily around the western Mediterranean. Regularly visiting cities like, Tunis, Valencia, Genoa and Marseilles among others. His military experience is crucial to the success of his business, he gained knowledge about sailing and which routes, and created a personal network of officials and merchants in many ports he visits.
