Sharparrow of the Outlands
Overview
The Order of the Sharparrow is a Kingdom-level Grant of Arms Order in the Kingdom of the Outlands. It is bestowed upon those who have demonstrated extraordinary skill in the arts and sciences of traditional SCA-style archery. While the formal constitution was signed on November 14, A.S. XXXIII (1998) during the reign of King Hrothger II and Queen Madigan, the order was originally chartered on November 8, 1997, as the Order of the Archers of the Iron Rain. The name was officially changed to the Order of the Sharparrow in May 1998. Pendar the Bard held the office of White Stag Principal Herald at the time of the constitution's signing.
Purpose and Recognition
The Order recognizes individuals who exhibit extraordinary skill in period archery, proficiency in all non-combat archery systems, and a broad knowledge of projectile-related activities, including craftsmanship and competition. Beyond technical skill, companions of the Order are expected to demonstrate leadership, teaching, and unquestionable character and courtesy both on and off the field.
Holders of this award are styled as Archers of the Iron Rain and are entitled to use the post-nominal letters A.I.R. after their name.
