Persona

Lianor da Costa lives in Castile in 1485. As a young Jewish woman, she was traveling near Santiago de Compostela with her father, a cloth merchant, when her party was attacked. She fled with her baby brother Alvaro, into the cathedral. She begged for sanctuary, but the priest told her that he would only grant sanctuary to baptized Christians. So she and Alvaro accepted baptism and escaped the marauders. Now she is forced to live as a Christian, so she may be seen with her paternoster with a shell, the symbol of Santiago de Compostela.
