Royal Archer

Summary

The Royal Archer is the Archery Champion that serves on the Royal Guard for the Crown. The position serves for 1 full year. The Tournament is currently held each year at Battlemoor. The outgoing Royal Archer is responsible to plan and host the next tournament. They are ineligible to participate in the tournament.

In the beginning, the tournaments were held at Grand Outlandish in al-Barran. Only those with an archery rank of Yeoman and above were eligible to compete. To help folks attain that rank, an IKAC was held the day before which allowed anyone desiring to participate to score 45 points and immediately increase their rank.

When a northern camping event on the same weekend was created to reduce the long travel time and offer those who were unable to attend Outlandish an alternative, the Royal Archer tournament began to be held simultaneously at both events. The Royal Archer and volunteers at the other event worked together to ensure the same tournament conditions existed to the best of their abilities. At that time, it was always an IKAC tournament.

The coordination involved long drives to reach the nearest payphones and careful timing to relay the top scores at each event. Later, the long drive was to find any cell signal near the events.

If a tie occurred, a tie-breaker was held at each site. Most often it was a single end with the best score taking the higher position. Once that was complete, more driving to relay the new numbers and determine the winner of the tournament. It was kept confidential and announced in court at each event. Then the challenge to convey the regalia from the previous Royal Archer to the new Royal Archer began.

With the creation of Battlemoor, the Royal Archer Tournament moved to a single event. It is held on the Saturday of Battlemoor with the winner announced in Grand Court. The return to a single site allowed the tournament to change from an IKAC to more interesting challenges. The rank based participation was removed along with the qualifier.

While everyone may participate in the tournament, the winner of the position must be an Outlands resident.
