Overview
The Shire of Windkeep is an SCA branch based in and around Cheyenne, Wyoming. It has a rich history of persistence in securing its identity, with multiple attempts to register its name before settling on the current title. The Shire is known for its active community and its annual "Yule" event held every December.
History
The group was originally formed in the summer of 1982. Early attempts to establish a lasting name met with challenges due to conflicts with existing SCA group names:
- The initial name was **Shire of Windhaven**, used until September 1982, when it was rejected for conflict.
- The second attempt was **Shire of Winddragon**, used until May 1985, but also rejected due to name conflicts.
- The third try was **Shire of Gryphon’s Keep**, used from June 1985 until September 1985, but again rejected for conflict.
Finally, the name **Shire of Windkeep** was submitted in November 1986 and officially registered in March 1987, allowing the group to move beyond its incipient status and become formally recognized as the Shire of Windkeep.

Windkeep is based primarily in Cheyenne, Wyoming, serving local gentles and the surrounding area.
Events
The Shire of Windkeep is known for its annual **Yule** event, held each December, which serves as a key gathering for the local SCA community.
