On April 23, 2023, [[Reign of Bardolf & Sabiha|Bardolf and Sabiha]] met with the populace of Fontaine dans Sable to determine the future of the Barony. In an effort to protect the populace from the administrative burdens of barony status and reduce the risk of officer burnout, it was decided that Fontaine would be divested of its barony status and revert to shire status. This announcement was originally made by Fontaine's seneschal, [[Alamanda de la Roca]], to Fontaine's private Facebook group, and copied to the [[Kingdom of the Outlands' Meeting House]] in the comments section of the court report for the [[Fall Crown Tournament, AS LVIII (2023)]].<ref>[[:File:Fontaine-announcement.png]]</ref>
 
It was determined that the official divestiture would take place at the Warders of the Western Gate<ref>https://www.fontaine.outlands.org/warders-of-the-western-gate/</ref> event regularly held by Fontaine in September. Divestiture

On April 23, 2023, Bardolf and Sabiha met with the populace of Fontaine dans Sable to determine the future of the Barony. In an effort to protect the populace from the administrative burdens of barony status and reduce the risk of officer burnout, it was decided that Fontaine would be divested of its barony status and revert to shire status. This announcement was originally made by Fontaine's seneschal, Alamanda de la Roca, to Fontaine's private Facebook group, and copied to the Kingdom of the Outlands' Meeting House in the comments section of the court report for the Fall Crown Tournament, AS LVIII (2023).[21]

It was determined that the official divestiture would take place at the Warders of the Western Gate[22] event regularly held by Fontaine in September. In the intervening time between the meeting with Their Royal Majesties and the actual divestiture, it is unclear who reigned as Baron and Baroness. According to Wimble Herald, Rowland and Isabella stepped down on April 23, 2023[19][20]. There is then no Baronage or Vicar listed as reigning over Fontaine until September of 2023[7][8].

In honor of their service as Founding Baron and Baroness, Duncan Alastair MacRae and Mary of Lyonshall were invested as the final Baronage on September 2 of 2023. The divestiture ceremony took place the next day[7][8]. The Board of Directors for the Society of Creative Anachronism approved the change in status on October 21, 2023[23].
