The students forming this group wish it to be known that they have created this constitution and have adopted it for use in governing their actions as a group.

This group, formed on the Auraria Campus through the Office of Student Life at Metropolitan State College of Denver, shall be a chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). The SCA is an international non-profit society geared toward the research and recreation of the Middle Ages.

To this end, we shall follow the laws, traditions, and customs of the Society, the Kingdom of the Outlands, and the Barony of Caerthe, being where we are located. Exceptions shall occur only when the rules of MSCD are in conflict, at which point we shall follow the rules and regulations of MSCD.

Article I – Name

The name of this group for college purposes shall be Students for Creative Anachronism of Auraria Campus (SCA-AC).

The members of SCA-AC shall research and adopt a name and heraldry appropriate for our use, subject to the approval of the guidelines and acceptance process of the College of Heralds of the Kingdom of the Outlands.

Article II – Purpose

The purpose of the SCA-AC is to research and recreate the Middle Ages in the Auraria Campus community by holding and traveling to events, demonstrations, and workshops.

Article III – Membership

Membership is open to anyone associated with:

  • Metropolitan State College of Denver
  • University of Colorado at Denver
  • Community College of Denver

Article IV – Dues

There will be no dues charged by the SCA-AC for membership in the group.

However:

  • You must be a paid member of the SCA to be an officer in the Society.
  • Non-member surcharges, as dictated by the SCA Board of Directors, apply to official SCA events.

Article V – Officers

All officers shall serve on the board. The board is responsible for establishing policies, overseeing events, and managing the daily operations of the SCA-AC.

  • Only paid members of the SCA may hold Society office.
  • Per MSCD guidelines, only MSCD students may hold the offices of Seneschal, Deputy Seneschal, Exchequer, and Secretary.
  • The Secretary need not be an SCA member, but is encouraged to be.
  • Remaining Society positions may be filled by any member of SCA-AC with the approval of the group and the Seneschal.

Officer Descriptions

  • Seneschal (President): Presides over meetings and serves as Chief Executive Officer. Must follow all Kingdom Seneschal policies.
  • Deputy Seneschal (Vice President): Serves as Seneschal in their absence.
  • Exchequer (Treasurer): Responsible for all fiscal matters. Must follow MSCD and SCA financial policies.
  • Secretary: Keeps records; not required to be an SCA member.
  • Knight Marshal: Oversees all armored combat activities; must follow policies of the Kingdom Knight Marshal.
  • Minister of Arts and Sciences: Manages A&S activities; must follow policies of the Kingdom Minister of A&S.
  • Rapier Marshal: Oversees rapier combat; must follow policies of the Kingdom Rapier Marshal.
  • Herald: Responsible for name/device submissions, announcements, and heraldic duties as outlined by kingdom law.

Article VI – Meetings

Meetings shall be held monthly during the fall and spring semesters, or as otherwise determined by the officers.

There shall also be an annual meeting (ideally around May 1st) to select officers for the coming year.

Article VII – Amendments

This constitution may be amended by a majority vote of all paid members.
