Overview

The College of Blaiddwyn is a college located at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is a part of the Barony of al-Barran and the Kingdom of the Outlands.

While many members focus on European studies, others pursue interests in Middle Eastern and Asian cultures, as well as the intercultural connections between them during the medieval period.

Membership in the SCA is open to anyone through the Society’s website, and affiliation with the College is open to all members of the UNM community. Membership in the student organization requires no dues, and non-SCA members are welcome to participate in activities and events to learn more about medieval life.

Heraldry

The name College of Blaiddwyn was registered in March 1994. The name is derived from the Gaelic blaidd (pronounced blayth) meaning “wolf” and the deuterotheme -wyn meaning “white.”

The college’s device, also registered in March 1994, is blazoned: Argent, on a pale gules a wolf sejant affronty overall a laurel wreath vert.

Activities

The College of Blaiddwyn participates in the arts, sciences, and martial traditions of the SCA, frequently collaborating with the Barony of al-Barran for practices, feasts, and educational events. The group’s members explore a wide variety of medieval crafts and disciplines, including historical research, costuming, cooking, and performance arts.
