Stags' Con
Overview
StagsCon is a recurring administrative and educational gathering held in the northern region of the Kingdom of the Outlands. Originally conceived as a meeting and training event for local and Kingdom officers, StagsCon provides an opportunity for officers, deputies, event stewards, and interested gentles to receive training, discuss Kingdom business, and engage directly with Kingdom leadership.
The event was established to strengthen communication and coordination between Kingdom officers and their local counterparts, particularly within the northern Outlands. Programming has traditionally included officer classes and workshops, panel discussions, administrative meetings, and opportunities for consultation with Kingdom officers. Prospective officers and deputies have also been encouraged to attend in order to learn more about the responsibilities of office before taking on official roles.
Over time, StagsCon evolved from a primarily officer-focused meeting into a broader regional gathering supporting education, administration, and community-building within the Kingdom of the Outlands. The event continues to serve as a venue for leadership development, information-sharing, and collaboration among the populace of the northern Outlands.[1]
First Iteration
StagsCon I – The Northern Gathering was held on May 17, AS XXXII (1997) in the Barony of Unser Hafen. The event took place at Poudre High School in Fort Collins, Colorado, utilizing classrooms, an auditorium, and a commons area for meetings and classes.
The inaugural StagsCon was conceived as an All-Officers Meeting for the northern region of the Kingdom of the Outlands. Local officers and deputies were encouraged to attend for training and consultation with Kingdom officers, while gentles considering taking office were invited to learn more about the responsibilities of various positions. The event schedule included classes, officer meetings, and a planned panel discussion featuring the Kingdom officers.
The daytime site operated from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Lunch was available on site for an additional fee, and an evening wet revel was held separately following the close of the official event activities. The site fee for the inaugural event was $2.00, with proceeds benefiting the Outlandish Herald.[1]
The autocrat for the event was Leonora Kathryn de Provence.
StagsCon 2 – The Southern Gathering was held on June 28, AS XXXII (1997) in al-Barran. Intended as a counterpart to the northern gathering, the event served officers and prospective officers from the southern region of the Kingdom of the Outlands.
The event took place at the University of New Mexico, utilizing classrooms in Mitchell Hall of the Duck Pond and an auditorium in the Anthropology Building. As with the first StagsCon, the event focused on officer training, discussion, and consultation with Kingdom leadership. The schedule included training sessions, combined officer meetings, a panel discussion, and opening and closing courts held at the discretion of the Crown and Coronet.
The site opened at 9:00 a.m. and closed at 5:00 p.m. No lunch was served on site, though several restaurants were noted within walking distance. An after-revel with directions was held following the event. The autocrat for StagsCon 2 was Lady Emma of Essex.[2]
