StagsCon (originally styled “StagsCon I – The Northern Gathering”) was first held on May 17, AS XXXII (1997) in the Barony of Unser Hafen. Conceived as an All-Officers Meeting for the northern region of the Kingdom of the Outlands, the event brought together Kingdom officers and their Northern local counterparts for training, discussion, and fellowship.
The inaugural StagsCon was intended primarily for officers and deputies at all levels. Local officers were encouraged to attend for training and direct consultation with their Kingdom superiors, and gentles considering taking on an office were specifically invited to participate in order to learn more about responsibilities before accepting a position. A panel discussion featuring the full slate of Kingdom Officers was planned, providing attendees an opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with Kingdom leadership. Court could be held at the discretion of Their Majesties.
The event was held at Poudre High School in Fort Collins, Colorado, utilizing multiple classrooms, a large auditorium, and a commons area. The site opened at 9:30 a.m. and closed at 5:30 p.m. Although the daytime site was described as “VERY DRY” and no smoking in all areas, an evening wet revel (with no smoking permitted in the house) was planned separately. Lunch was available for a modest fee, and additional dining options were located nearby.
The site fee for the first StagsCon was $2.00, with profits designated for the Outlandish Herald. Reservations were not required, and limited crash space was offered by arrangement.
The autocrat for StagsCon I was Baroness Leonora Kathryn de Provence (Sheron “Spike” Buchele).[1]
